Dear Parents of Stonybrook Students,

As the new principal of Stonybrook, I’d like to take a moment to look ahead with you to the 2010-2011 school year. It is a year that brings with it much that is new for all of us. Parents, whether you are new to our school or are returning, we will be working together to provide your children with the best possible school year.

For all of the positive aspects that new opportunities bring, they are sometimes tempered by an uncertainty of what lies ahead. This is natural, both for your children and for you. Let me assure you that you need not be concerned at all, and that you can look ahead with the sense of excitement that a new school year should bring. I think you will also find that for all that has changed, many of the wonderful things that you have come to expect from Stonybrook will remain . We at Stonybrook are committed to this ideal, and I have been working closely with Mrs. Mulholland, who is now at Kiel School, to ensure that we are prepared for a great year. Though I am new to Stonybrook, I was a principal of a pre-k – 8th grade school prior to joining the Kinnelon School District at the beginning of last year. I am excited to be able to work with students in kindergarten and grades 3, 4, and 5 again, and to join the Stonybrook faculty and you in making this a memorable year for your child.

A key component in ensuring a successful year is open communication between home and school. I welcome your questions and thoughts, and invite you to call, email, or stop by when you have the need. For our part, we will communicate in a number of ways in addition to calls, emails, and meetings. These include the Friday Folder, through which we will send home weekly distributions over the course of the year; Textcaster, through which we send important updates (if you are not already signed up for this free service, you can do so through the link at the bottom of the district website); and our district website. I also have a blog (for those who are not familiar, this is an online forum for sharing thoughts, reflections, ideas, and discussion on a variety of topics), which you can access at http://mmongon.edublogs.org/ or through the link above. Each of these avenues is meant to provide you with the ability to be an active and informed participant in your child’s education. I look forward to partnering with you to provide the best possible school experience for your child.

Sincerely yours,

Mark P. Mongon
